An Isolated Storm Kaye Spivey Books

Kaye Spivey’s debut poetry collection, An Isolated Storm is a mesmerizing and romantic collection of dream-like poems which follows the course of the seasons and explores the experience of being in your early twenties and not knowing as much about the world as you would like, but struggling to understand it through your reflection against others. It has been called “neo-beat” and “captivating” by readers.

I enjoyed her imagery and fresh look at nature and relationships. "A short promise to a beatnik" was a favorite because it made me smile. I loved "Shipwreck" and "Cure".Product details

An Isolated Storm Kaye Spivey Books Reviews
I may be biased, but a lot of heart and hard work went into this collection, so I hope others enjoy it!
I loved this book, not just because a lot of the poems really got to my heart and made me sort of gaze off into space after reading them, contemplating their imagery and the memories they evoked, but also because they made me want to write. I hadn't written a poem for a year, but after reading An Isolated Storm (like, literally right after reading it, and a couple times while reading it), I had to pull out pen and paper to start getting my thoughts out.
So I will say, in general, I loved this book because it's neo-beat, free verse poems are very inspirational. If you want to be a poet, or get back into poetry, read this book. You'll be glad you did
I do not read a lot of poetry, not because I don't like it, but because I have more of a penchant for Robert Browning and William Morris. Kaye Spivey, however, is an up-and-coming poet well worth anyone's time.
An Isolated Storm is a collection of poems that evoke emotions in that particular way poems ought to. It is an experience of experiences, and I know that sounds a little weird, but bear with me. I believe that a poem, a good poem, should give to the reader a finite experience, something so concentrated in essence that when you're done reading it, you're left with nothing but that specific feeling, that specific experience, and that is a rewarding enough reason to read poetry.
Kaye Spivey's poems do this. They strike specific chords of emotion, and it is a pleasure to find poems that still seek to do this, rather than stretch for some imagined avant guard form of writing. Do yourself a favor and read An Isolated Storm. It is well worth your time.
Kaye Spivey does has a beautiful mind for imagery, creating pictures that flow through you as you turn page after page. The prevailing theme for the first half is winter, but Kaye takes you from season to season, place to place, and doesn't let you go until the final poem.
I enjoyed her imagery and fresh look at nature and relationships. "A short promise to a beatnik" was a favorite because it made me smile. I loved "Shipwreck" and "Cure".
